Baby Quilt Christening Gift

I have another crafty show-and-tell for you today.  It's another quilt!

A friend wanted a special christening present for her soon-to-be Godson, and commissioned me to make a fleece-lined quilt with the baby's name on it.  She didn't want it to bee 'too babyish', as she wants him to be able to carry on using it for some years to come.  And she wanted it to include some dark blue fabrics and star motifs, to tie in with other things he already has in his bedroom.

With such a special gift to make, and such a specific brief, I was pretty nervous about how it would turn out.  But, in the end, I was really, really happy with it.  So was my friend.  And so were the parents of her new Godson.  Phew, phew and phew!!!

Here it is:

To begin with, I wasn't sure about appliqueing the name on. I was worried that it would spoil the 'overall look' of the quilt.  What do you think?  Does the name add or detract???  I'd be grateful for any comments on this.....

  1. Carly you are so clever! I love the quilt and think you have blended the name into the quilt perfectly. I love the colours, they are exactly what I would have picked for my boys. These colours will really stand the test of time. Well done! xo

  4. Dear Carly, the quilt looks really, really nice. I think the name blends in very well with the rest and makes it so much more personal. You can be very proud of yourself.

I have nervously announced a giveaway on my blog. I have never tried that before - we shall see how it goes :-). Have a nice Tuesday. B

  6. I am always in awe of your sewing skills, your patchwork is *so* neat. I now feel too embarrassed to ever show off any of my sewing online! Haha. Don't think the name detracts at all, I really like how you've done it.

  7. It's lovely. I like the name makes it personal. I hate you for having such lovely straight lines though. ;)

  8. Carly it's gorgeous, and super neat, look at that back, perfectly straight stitching and not a pucker in sight. Brilliant job, it's always so nerve wracking doing something for someone else isn't it? Even when you're confident in the task at hand, the relief when they like it is incredible!
Oh and I love the name, makes it a really personal home made gift

  10. It's beautiful Carly! It definitely doesn't detract! Sometimes I think names on quilts do spoil the overall look, but you've made the letters fit in so perfectly with the whole feel of the quilt by keeping the letters nice and simple! I just love the colors and patterns too... so jealous of your quilt skills!
